Architect Steven Holl's Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma ~ A Recent Landmark In Helsinki ~ Visited By AKN Editor

Posted: 16 Nov 2010 07:54 PM PST

The main entrance of the Kiasma features the Mannerheim statue beside the visitor brings a high glass covered hall. It creates the building's personality, which is toward the theater space and showrooms to find the way to simpler forms. A ramp leads to the lower lobby toward the museum's core. The design is based on ideas about the golden section, Zen-like peace, human scale. For example, the second and fourth layer of serialism, facilities, lines and details to take these starting points. All the technology, so security, air conditioning, as the exhibition, is hidden in wall structures. Kiasma is open from morning until late at night. The Museum offers exhibitions, interdisciplinary artistic projects, performance art, dance, music, media art and films. Kiasma's world is also made up of conversational interludes, encounters with artists, festivals, seminars, familiarization with the web, browsing in the bookstore, and workshop opportunities. Kiasma is an ensemble in continuous movement where performances and projects live, overlap and intertwine at different speeds. Its fine collections and large-scale exhibitions are showcased for a longer period of time while the shorter life-spans of smaller exhibitions and theatre pieces attest to a more rapid cycle. Kiasma lives also very much in the here and now, reacting and commenting on the events and phenomena of the day when the need arises, to astound its visitors. Even though Kiasma comes across as new, strange, and different in the beginning, it does not necessarily feel foreign. As a compass, the visitor is given various channels. One can familiarize oneself with Kiasma beforehand through the Internet. The Museum's entrance hall is a free zone where one can choose a specific area of interest from the panoply of Museum offerings with the aid of intranet and other guide material. With Kiasma, there is no single right way of seeing or experiencing. The most important thing is to provide space and possibilities for different thoughts, ideas, and fine art. The Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma creation was planned to be ready for the 30 century. Website:_ http://www.kiasma.fi/

Moving to the Kiasma building marked a new beginning in a way museum. Now it was possible to carry out the dreams and aspirations, which was previously only dreamed: a versatile and level of domestic and foreign exhibition program, its own premises a collection of exhibitions, theater, artists' work the possibility of a museum, workshop, seminar room, museum pedagogy, emphasis on action, a broad-based information technology deployment, reading areas, internet terminals for public use , numerous events in and outside Kiasma, the active participation of urban youth events, and events, involvement in various productions as well as the museum's own magazine. Kiasma, a policy guideline was based on a new kind of cultural activity center, and visual thinking. The museum wants to be active in its activities, the living and the many voices and to act as a meeting point for citizens. This action, it has reached, in particular young people and visits from students. The latest indication of the Contemporary Art Museum of Contemporary Art and the objective to create a lively meeting place for audiences is the Kiasma Stage. The museum's central location and easy approachability is certainly one explanation for the museum's prior expectations, crossed the large flow of visitors, but above all they tell us that has found its place at Kiasma in Helsinki and the Finnish cultural field. The "mirror room" by Charles Sandison on the fourth floor is a real gem: you can linger on there for ages watching words and phrases flowing on the walls and the ceiling around you and their reflection in the mirror floor under your feet (the idea is that "language is a mirror of the world"). The art of Eero Aarnio and Alvar Aalto are displayed among other noted Finish artists. Kiasma and its operation is a hot topic speaks to the audience and hopefully will continue. This museum fulfills the important function of contemporary culture, a forum and an advocate for modern art.

PARIS.- When presented at the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts de Belgique in Brussels and at the Koninklijk Museum voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerp, the work of James Ensor (1860-1949) is that of a Belgian painter who is both innovative and tortured. Presented at the Musée d'Orsay, his original and profound paintings are those of a 19th-century artist situated between Naturalism and Modernity. Presented at the MoMA, his work fits brilliantly and naturally into the great avant-garde movements that are the forte of this museum. Furthermore, it was this powerful originality that Alfred Barr stressed in 1940, when he acclaimed the "Tribulations of St. Anthony", declaring that Ensor was, at the time he produced this painting in 1887, "the boldest living artist". On view Spring, 2010.

New York City - Abstraction has been the dominant artistic mode of the last fifty years and has recently received renewed interest from artists and scholars. For decades following the emergence of Abstract Expressionism, the National Academy had a capricious relationship with abstract art, often rejecting it, occasionally embracing it, and ultimately accepting it. While there are some New York School artists who never became Academicians, others exhibited in the Annual exhibitions and many were eventually elected to membership in the Academy. Her works have been exhibited in museums and galleries worldwide and are collected by private and public institutions alike. She uses her own life-changing experiences to feed a continuing process of paradox, of social perception, inner and outer beauty. Her life and work are a journey which have merited her to be considered by many the Frida Kahlo of China.

Today it is rightly hailed as one of his finest masterpieces, the crowning achievement of what was arguably his most glorious period. NEW YORK, NY.- Starting off the summer program, Danziger Projects will present a group exhibition and installation titled "The Art Fair is Present". On one hand a playful reference to the just finished Marina Abramović retrospective at MoMA (titled "The Artist is Present") the exhibition is comprised of work exhibited by the gallery in recent art fairs mixed with new work by Jean-Philippe Delhomme commenting on the New York art world. On the other hand, the exhibition seriously calls into question the practice and convention of how art is viewed in galleries, how information is provided, how commerce is conducted, and what effect and to what extent communication (or the lack of) is a part of the process.
