Royal Museums of Fine Arts in Belgium Explores the World of Paul Delvaux Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:59 PM PST BRUSSELS.- Twelve years after the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium held a large retrospective, the world of Paul Delvaux (1897-1994) will once more be explored in an ambitious exhibition that will tackle a theme which had previously been neglected by art historians: the transposition of antiquity into the work of this Belgian artist. Delvaux asserted his passion for antiquity all his life, long before he saw these ancient places, which had become mythical, with his own eyes. On exhibition 23 October through 31 January, 2010.

Museo del Prado Focuses New Exhibition on Noteable Dutch Painters Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:56 PM PST MADRID.- Through the generosity of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, from 3 December the Prado will be displaying a masterpiece by the Dutch painter Frans Hals, Company of Captain Reijnier Reael and Lieutenant Cornelis Michielsz Blaeuw (1633-1637), which was completed by his fellow-countryman Pieter Codde. This magnificent work by one of the most important Dutch painters of the 17th century is to be seen at the Museum as part of its "Invited Work" programme. Krannert Art Museum ' Blown Away ' Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:48 PM PST
Champaign, IL - Serving as the visual focus of Hollywood blockbuster films and television news stories pertaining to the current war in Iraq, explosions have become a part of popular culture. A healthy fascination that begins with a childhood fireworks display becomes an uncomfortable attraction to the more disturbing displays of car crashes and bomb detonations. As physical forms, explosions are simultaneously unnerving and beautiful.

Netwerk Center for Contemporary Art opens 'Time as Activity' Exhibition Posted: 23 Dec 2010 07:42 PM PST AALST, BELGIUM.- While nowadays, 'documentation' has widely been accepted and understood as one of the main paradigms of conceptual art, there has only been few attention for the 'description' – especially considering how intrinsic this activity was to the work of conceptual artists from the sixties and seventies. Even if the works of that period are often presented as the testimony of an action or an idea, this doesn't exclude that they wouldn't offer just as much a descriptive content of a particular sort: they denote the presence of 'things-as-they-are', in all their layers and details.. Marie-Josée Jean, artistic director of the art center Vox in Montréal and curator of Time as Activity, concentrated on the continuity of these descriptions from the end of the sixties until today.
